The New 2017 Scott Spark Mountain Bike - 1749 Grams - Bred to WIN

Scott's approach to the new Spark was simple - make a bike that will perform for the best riders but one that can still be used by everyone.



Despite the simple look of the bike, it is packed with technical features and details. Exquisitely detailed, built to perfection.


The new generation of Spark frame contains a dedicated RC collection which comprises the lightest and most race-driven mountain bikes that Scott has ever built.



The new RC family consists of 16 high-end, race dedicated models. The RC family includes all options- HT or full suspension, 27.5" or 29" wheel size geometries. All RC models come with 100mm of travel.


The engineers at Scott continue to dial in geometry that results in better fit, control, and ride quality.

The new Spark has a 1.3 degree slacker head tube angle, 13mm shorter chainstay, and a steeper seat tube angle. The reach has been lengthened by 17mm, as well as the stack being 17mm lower. And the full suspension platform offers best bump sensitivity and bottom out resistance as well as a good mid-stroke support


The new pivotless swingarm allows the rear triangle to be moulded in just two continuos carbon parts, where the older version was made up from 18 seperate parts. The 130g saving is where most of the weight has been taken from the frame. The rear end will now give a few degrees of flex to allow the suspension to do its thing, instead of a bushing pivot and all its hardware.

The Boost Technology results in increased wheel stiffness and improved tire clearance. On the Spark project, we wanted to go beyond the basics and reap all the benefits of this innovation by optimizing frame design and geometry.

All this technology goes directly into the trail bike and 27plus frames, which are identical. And while the Spark RC is single ring only, the Spark and 27plus bikes are single or double compatible.

Scott worked with Syncros to develop a new component line that follows the philosophy of the new bikes: reduce weight, add comfort, and increase structural rigidity.

Tour Magazine Names the 2016 Scott Foil Premium As Best Overall Bike

TOUR Magazine reviewed the 2016 Foil Premium, here is what the editors came up with:

[Video Review] 2016 Scott Genius 700 Premium

Brad Titzer from Scott Sports took some time at Interbike 2015 to talk with us about the Scott Genius 700 Premium!

The Genius Plus uses the same front triangle as the current Genius HMX-carbon model just the head angle was slackened to 67.5° using an angleset. Instead of 150mm travel the Genius Plus has 140mm front and 130mm rear suspension.

At the rear end a completely new aluminium-swingarm is used based on the new Boost-standard.

By operating the new remote-lever, which can be positioned like a left shifter the entire suspension system can be regulated in synchronisation: Descend (full travel, open damping), Traction-Control (at the front: full travel but more damping, at the rear 130mm reduced to 90mm travel, more damping and steeper geometry), and Lockout.

2016 Scott Addict CX Cyclocross Bike Review


The Addict CX is back, and its fitter than ever. 




Weighing in below 1300g, the Addict CX frameset is lighter than any other disc brake-optimized cross bike on the market. We have embraced our lightweight obsession to create a state of the art Cyclo-Cross bike that features excellent stiffness values combined with race-driven geometry for immediate power transfer, direct handling, A-level integration and a handful of unexpected extras while maintaining an incredibly low weight.



CONSTRUCTION

LIGHTWEIGHT CARBON CONSTRUCTION


Addict construction



Light weight is the shared bloodline connecting all SCOTT product segments. Early on, SCOTT invested heavily into the development of new carbon manufacturing technologies, the use of exclusive raw materials and the optimization of development processes. The continuous advancement of SCOTT’s carbon expertise enables the release of stunningly lightweight products on a regular basis. The Addict CX is no exception to this rule.

The frame uses an HMX carbon fiber blend that has inherently excellent stiffness-to-weight characteristics. The front triangle of the Addict CX is manufactured using SCOTT’s patented IMP Technology which results in incredibly lightweight construction. Rounded off with full carbon, hollow rear dropouts the frame weighs in at 890g while the disc brake-optimized fork tips the scale at 390g. The race-ready, disc brake-equipped Addict CX, which Marcel Wildhaber rode at the 2015 CX World Championships in Tabor, is scrapping The UCI’s weight limit for complete bikes.

Thanks to SCOTT’s Engineer’s Carbon expertise, the Addict CX is by far the lightest disc brake-optimized Cyclo-Cross bike currently on the market.




RIGID FRONT END


The new Addict CX features 1 1/8” to 1 1/2” integrated bearings and a tapered headtube. Compared to the previous model the headtube diameter has increased and therefore allows for wider connections of the toptube and downtube which results in an increase of torsional stiffness by 32%. The rigid front end enables direct, precise and safe handling of the bike, even in the most technical of turns.









PF86 BOTTOM BRACKET


The PF86 bottom bracket allows for a wide connection of the downtube and the tapered seattube to the BB box. Together with a stiffness-optimized lay-up and SCOTT’s patented carbon manufacturing process, the BB stiffness of the new Addict CX has increased by 14% compared to its predecessor.







CYCLO-CROSS FEATURES

TIRE CLEARANCE


In Cyclo-Cross mud is like sand on a beach. Tire clearance can therefore be a decisive factor in racing. The fork and frame are built so that even in the muddiest of conditions the wheels turn unrestricted. In case a ride on dirt roads is planned, the Addict CX offers enough tire clearance to accommodate gravel tires.

MUD-SHEDDING CHAINSTAYS


Mud on the bike is unnecessary weight and can impair the performance of the bike. The shape of the chainstays has been specifically designed to make sure mud doesn’t stick in this area impeding wheel rotation and ultimately rider speed.

REMOVABLE DERAILLEUR HANGER AND CHAIN GUARD


The front derailleur hanger is removable, accommodating all drivetrain options. If a single chainring crankset is run, no derailleur hanger is required and precious grams can be saved by removing it. A removable chain guard avoids chain sucks in case the chain falls off when a double crankset is used.

The Carbon Experts - SCOTT BICYCLES

How Does SCOTT Create their Carbon Fiber Bikes?



First, Here are the types of Carbon Fiber used by Scott.



HMF CARBON FIBER

HMF carbon fiber is used to maximize strength and to keep weight low. This material has an optimal blend of stiffness and strength that offers the best riding session. The know-how of SCOTT engineers is utilized in order to create the perfect lay-up with orientation and fiber size. HMF fiber will offer superior strengh compared to the industry standard. 

HMX CARBON FIBER

SCOTT has improved upon the now conventional high modulus carbon fiber, HMF, used throughout the bicycle industry. HMX is a fiber blend used by SCOTT, and is 20 percent stiffer than its HMF counterpart for the same weight. This unique material allows SCOTT engineers to create incredibly light bikes with excellent riding characteristics. The cost of HMX, however, is three times that of HMF, and is therefore reserved for our high end Premium,Team Issue, and RC frames.

HMX-SL

HMX-SL utilizes Nano-technology, which incorporates a carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy resin as well as T1000G carbon fiber. The carbon nanotubes offer an improved strength perpendicular and at off-axis to fiber direction, which allows for a better inter-laminar shear strength. The cohesion between the fibers is improved compared to our industry leading HMX carbon blend offering an unprecedented resistance. T1000G is the world's highest tensile strength fiber. This fiber is traditionally used for aerospace or defense applications. Strategic use of this new material results in a frame that is lightweight without compromise in power transfer.

HMX filaments are both stiffer and smaller in diameter than those of HMF carbon. Because of this, an HMX frame can be built of tubes with thinner wall thicknesses to achieve the same stiffness of a corresponding HMF frame.

The final difference between a HMX and HMF frame is mainly the weight. A HMF frame is about 14% heavier than a HMX frame.

SCOTT carbon frames are all designed, engineered and virtually tested prior to opening new molds. Concepts are first validated by our team of designers to ensure that they integrate with the overall SCOTT ethos. Our engineers then build a 3D model of the frame which can then be analyzed by the most advanced FEA and CFD industrial tools, as well as our own, in-house developed, kinematic and composite structure software. These tools allow our engineers to assess a frame's weight and volume, stress distribution, stiffness rating, aerodynamic performance, suspension characteristics with regard to kinematics and spring rates, and fiber ply layup schedules.




Once the virtual design and engineering process is completed, the first mold can be opened. SCOTT engineers layup the initial frame themselves. The resulting prototype frames then go directly from the mold to the test lab to assess frame strength and stiffness. The frame will then go through several cycles of layup refinement and testing until all performance targets are met.








Prior to mass production, a pilot run of frames is produced to validate all tooling and layup schedules. These pilot frames are then subjected to further lab testing, before being ridden in real world conditions. It is at this point that our professional teams and riders enter the equation, pushing the bikes to their limits and providing valuable feedback.







The actual step-by-step process is as follows:



Design & Engineering -  Scott knows that carbon must be optimized in every respect in order to achieve top performance standards and function specific designs. Priority is placed on engineering and collaboration between Scott's greatest thinkers.


Precision Trimming of the HMX Carbon Fiber - The key to a superior layup begins with the engineered shapes that must first be laser cut.



Preparing The Layers - There are over 200 pre-prepared pieces of all sizes that are necessary to
construct a single Bicycle frame. Precision over these many repetitions is key to success.


Preforming & IMP (Integrated Molding Process) - IMP is a process developed by SCOTT engineers that allows for multiple tubes to be created in a single step while managing the layers completely.

During the molding process the layers are compressed while they cure. This adds integrity to the structure and further optimizes the HMX fibers. Scott invented Carbon Welding, a process widely used throughout the bicycle industry.



Machining - In order to assemble a precise final product, areas of the frame with critical tolorences are tuned so that the frame is finished well.


Bonding and Second Step Layup - The process of assembling the various pre-created parts of the fuselage is like finishing a complex puzzle in which care and precision is mandatory to maintain a high quality finished product. This is the final step in constructing a SCOTT frame.



Quality Control - SCOTT engineers maintain a high level of quality control. Destruction testing is performed at intervals throughout a production run. We know the exact serial number each member of the team has had a hand in producing and which day it was made. Without quality control no measure of a quality product can be produced.

2015 Scott Addict SL Racing Road Bike Review | Circle City Bicycles

While the full package remains nearly identical to the 2014 model, there are some minor changes, headlined by a Syncros saddle, mid-compact gearing and updated paint.

Oversized Bottom Bracket



In order to best manage power transfer our engineers developed a down tube and bottom bracket intersection that is the widest of any road bike currently on the market. The wide cross section and smooth transitions better manage loads and yield a laterally robust structure which increases pedaling efficiency by effectively delivering power to the drivetrain rather than losing it to unwanted frame flex.
 

Tapered Headtube

The Addict employs a tapered 1 1/4 - 1 1/8 tapered head tube and co-developed fork, adding structural integrity to the frameset without overdoing it.

HMX SL Carbon Fiber

Race Geometry

The geometry of the Addict and the Foil is Competition Road, validated by out ORICA GreenEDGE and IAM Cycling teams and enjoyed by the most discerning customers. The handling and fit you’ve come to expect from SCOTT will be familiarly aggressive.

F01 Aero Technology

F01 Technology is based on the theory that a partial airfoil shape without the trailing edge can produce the same aerodynamic advantage as a traditional foil shape. Modern foil shapes are largely based on models and ratios created for airplanes by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), but because bicycles attain speeds far less than those of airplanes, these ratios do not necessarily apply to bikes. SCOTT Aero Science engineers have thus developed F01 Technology to create unique, bicycle specific tube shapes which maximize aerodynamic efficiency at lower air speeds.

2015 Scott Solace 15 Disc Review - A Road Bike With Disc Brakes | Circle City Bicycles

The Solace Disc frame is built around the same features of the Solace. Geometry is tweaked for comfort, with a slightly taller (1cm) head tube and shorter top tube (again, 1cm) relative to Scott’s race-oriented models, the Addict and Foil. Solace is offered in seven sizes, as well as five sizes in the women’s Contessa line.

In addition to a large selection of sizes, the Solace has size-specific carbon layups. So a small frame offers a softer ride relative to a large frame, presumably accounting for rider weight.




The Solace Disc uses a traditional post disc mount on the fork and takes advantage of Shimano’s brand new Flat Mount standard on the rear chainstay. The new mount, which we expect to see adopted by quite a few bike brands in the next year or two, tightens up bolt spacing for a more compact, lighter, and less visually obtrusive package.

The Solace Disc features internal cable routing, making for a clean finish. While the stock build comes with mechanical Shimano Ultegra, the frame is fully compatible with electronic shift systems.

 
 
Scott has decided to jump on a current mountain bike axle standard, using a 15mm thru-axle up front and a 12mm rear axle in the rear.
