Tour Magazine Names the 2016 Scott Foil Premium As Best Overall Bike

"Scott's new Foil displayed the best combination of aerodynamics, light weight, riding stability and suspension comfort."

TOUR Magazine reviewed the 2016 Foil Premium, here is what the editors came up with:

"Is the fastest racing bike in the world also the best? Or is it the sum of all characteristics that makes the perfect road racing bicycle? Our test of 15aerodynamic racers does reveal - with the help of a new grading system - which models are only fast, and which also have other qualities.(...)

"The new Foil is an outstanding racing bicycle because it is very good in key disciplines: It has the lowest frameset weight in the test, lots of comfort at the saddle, and it has an extremely stable ride. The distinctivehandlebar-stem unit that, thanks to the right spacers, closely hugs the top tube, defines the bike's silhouette. With its complete Dura-Ace Di2 groupincluding sprint shifters, and standard Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels, there is not much to improve equipment-wise."

The 2016 Scott Foil has also been praised by Bikeradar and has been first across the finish line in 134 races at the highest level of cycling.

Light and Versatile 2016 Scott Genius 700 Tuned Plus Full Suspension Mountain Bike Review

Nimble, Stiff and Sleek, the 2016 Scott Genius 700 Tuned Plus is Ready To Rumble

Any Trail, Any Time

The overall weight of the Genius 700 Tuned Plus is only 12.3kg, the Genius LT 700 Plus weighs in at only 12.7kg. When it comes to realizing a capable Plus rig, the rear triangle is one of the key features on which to focus. The entire rear triangle has been newly developed, providing increased stiffness and the clearance a Plus format needs. The CST Genius 700 Plus measure 445mm (CST Genisu LT 700 Plus is 448mm), and are even shorter than the ones of the CST Genius 900.

Ride Quality

Loose, rocky climbs and technical, root infested sections can be tackled out of the saddle and on the gas.  - Bike Radar

When descending, the Genius 700 Plus provides a lively ride and can be thrown all over the place. Scott has done a good job with the geometry, sitting the rider in a fairly neutral position that allows for easy weight shifts and instils confidence on steeper sections. Providing you’re within that pressure sweet spot, there’s enough support from the wide (40mm internal) rims to carve turns hard, with no real squirm from the tires.

The Genius 700 Plus has 140mm of front and 130mm of rear travel, the Genius LT 700 Plus has 160/160mm of travel. Both bikes feature the latest evolution of FOX’s suspension highlights as well as Plus tuned suspension. Together with SCOTT’s patented TwinLoc system incl. true lockout and the SCOTT geo- metry adjustment chip, riders couldn`t ask for more adjustability or versatility. Our Plus geometries come with slacker head angles of 67.5° (Genius Plus) and 65.8° (LT Plus) and provide for super stable handling in rough trail and downhill sections and for more aggressive cornering.
`

It’s when it comes to tackling particularly dicey obstacles or sections of trail that the pluses of the Genius Plus really come to the fore. The well-balanced suspension and rollover confidence and overall boost in traction from the girthy tires make you feel invincible when carving root-covered cambers at speed.

Geometry

The Genius Plus’s geometry has been redesigned to perfectly accommodate the new plus-size tire measurements and standards.

The super-short rear triangles are Boost-ready and provide clearance up to 3.0”. Rear (148mm) and front hubs (110mm) enable wider bracing angles, increased wheel stiffness and better overall handling of the bikes. Both Genius 700 Tuned Plus and Genius LT 700 Plus feature a SRAM X01 optimized 1x11 Boost Drive Train. Even though Boost pushes the chainline out three millimeters, the Q-Factor remains the same.

The headtube angle on the Genius Plus is a slack-and-stable 67.5 degrees, and the bottom bracket is a tad lower on the plus model than on the previous 29er model.

Wider Tires

Scott worked closely with Schwalbe to develop the 27.5+ tires on Scott’s Plus line, and the general thinking behind it is that wider is better for stability, traction, acceleration, and cornering. In order to give the tire the right shape to accomplish all those lofty expectations, the Schwalbe rubber is mated to 45mm-wide Syncros rims (40mm inner-width and 21mm height). Scott bought Syncros in 2012 in hopes of using the in-house brand to develop components technologically specific to its bikes, and the Plus rims are a good example of that: The wider rim allows for an increased tire volume, presumably leading to a more comfortable ride, more traction in corners, and more lateral tire support.

INCREASED STABILITY WITH LESS AIR PRESSURE

Combining a wider tire with a narrow rim requires higher air pressure. On the other hand, increasing the width of the rim results in better stability. Wider rims add a significant amount of lateral support to the tire and reduce the walking effect. Wider, bigger tires come into play and enable riding with lower air pressure. From trail to all-mountain and enduro riders, the Syncros
27.5'' Plus wheel set offers a unique ride quality
including the fun factor.

According to Scott, the 2.8-inch tires offer a 21-percent increase in contact-patch size over a comparable 2.35-inch tire with a minimal increase in rolling resistance — only 5 watts. With all that width, Scott has still managed to avoid increasing Q-factor, so pedaling feels comfortable and intuitive, unlike true fat bikes that have vastly larger Q-factors.

2016 Scott Genius 740: The Ultimate Trail Bike

Scott's Entry Level Genius Will Still Amaze You

You'll be ready for the trial, no matter what it throws at you!

If you are looking for a bike that can handle tight, technical singletrack, steep climbs on fire roads, rocks and fast descents, look no further than the Scott Genius 740.

From the ground up, Scott has designed the Genius line of bikes to be the ultimate trail bike. The 740 offers the in-between 27.5" wheel size and boasts 150mm travel. The benefit of having 27.5" wheels (or 650b) is a decrease in rolling resistance and increased traction, without the added weight of the 29er.

On these 27.5" wheels Scott places a gorgeous hydroformed alloy 6061 frame in a matte grey and lime green paint scheme. The bike comes fully equipped with a custom FOX Nude shock and a FOX 32 Float Performance fork with three modes.

Scott's patented Twin Loc technology now offers simultaneous control of rear shock travel and fork lockout. The open position allows full travel, front and rear. One click switches the rear shock to Traction mode, while the fork remains fully active. Click again and rear shock and fork lock at the same time. No other bike in the world offers this user friendly system.

If needed, you can customize your bike's geometry by a shock mount chip in the linkage. By changing the shock mount chip - simply removing it and flipping it in either mounting position - you affect the bottom bracket height by 7mm, which also affects the head tube angle by 0.5 degrees.

Shimano fills out the drivetrain, with it's XT Shadow Rear Derailleur and Deore Front Derailleur. The brakeset is also by Shimano - SLX Disc Brakes. Sychros handles the handlebar and seat for a comfortable ride on your hands and rear end. Check out the specs:

New Option for 2016 Scott Scale and Genius: 27.5+ (Amazing Product Photos)

Scott Announces NEW 2016 27.5 PLUS Mountain Bikes

SCOTT worked with Schwalbe to determine the ideal 27.5+ tire width, and found that at 2.8" wide, the tradeoff between increased grip, weight, and rolling resistance was optimized for "proper" mountain biking.

On our 2016 Plus bikes, the Syncros rims have 40mm internal width and wear 2.8-inch Schwalbe tires. We worked closely with Schwalbe to determine the 2.8 size as an ideal balance of added traction (+21% contact patch) with minimal added rolling resistance ( +1%). Furthermore, weight gain is minimal, and frame geometry is subtly adjusted to take full profit of the added traction.

In the US, Scott will be offering the Scale 710 Plus and the Scale 720 Plus with 27.5+ wheels/tires, along with the Genius 700 Tuned Plus, Genius 710 Plus, and Genius 720 Plus.

The top-tier carbon-framed Genius 700 Tuned Plus (with alloy swingarm) will come spec’ed with a Fox 34 FIT4 Factory 140mm fork, SRAM X01 Optimized 1×11 Boost drivetrain, a RockShox Reverb Stealth seatpost, Shimano XTR brakes, Syncros tubeless ready carbon rims, and plenty of other carbon goodies. Claimed weight is 27.12lbs.

See a video from Global Mountain Bike Network HERE.

Now let's take a look at some of the other features of the Scott Genius.

Tapered Head Tube

The Genius features a tapered head tube for a seamless joint to the oversized down tube. This increases stiffness, safety, durability, and control.

Molded Oversize Bottom Bracket

The PF BB 92 bottom bracket is molded using our IMP technique. Because its shape is optimized to manage the main pivot load and seamlessly interface with the down tube it offers much higher lateral stiffness so that riders' pedal input is efficiently transferred into torque.

Forged Mono 'U' Link
w/ Geometry Adjustment

The newly designed Mono Link is low profile and able to handle the loads of a harder hitting Trail Bike. The link is more solid than the one used on the Spark with an additional bridge incorporated in the design while the bearings have been moved outboard into the seat stay to widen and stiffen the link. The link also features adjustable geometry by way of a shock mount chip. Simply flip the chip to either mounting position to affect the bottom bracket height and head tube angle by 6mm 0.4 degrees respectively. The Genius is the only Trail Bike on the market that offers this feature.

IDS -SL Dropouts
(Interchangeable Dropout System-Super Light)

Interchangeable and lightweight, the IDS-SL dropout system works with 142x12mm, 135x12mm and 135x10mm QR rear axle standards. Shred the turns more aggressively and with enhanced control, because the rear end is laterally stiff.

Oversize pivots

Increasing the pivot diameter better manages loads, and in turn increases the lateral stiffness of the frame. Because of this, we've upgraded the pivot axle sizes to match those used on all of our current suspension bikes.

Direct Post Mount

We've saved even more weight by eliminating bulky brake hardware for mounting the rear caliper and integrated a direct post mount to the chain stay. This mounting position also decreases the load the brakes apply to the swingarm parts.

Chainblocker and ISCG Mounts

The chainblocker plate protects the frame from "chainsuck" by blocking it from falling off the inner ring and damaging the frame. The system is compatible with 3x and 2x front drives. An optional ISCG adaptor allows riders to run a chain device for single or 2x chain set and is removable to leave a clean, light mainframe when not in use.

2016 Scott Addict CX Cyclocross Bike Review

The Addict CX is back, and its fitter than ever.

Weighing in below 1300g, the Addict CX frameset is lighter than any other disc brake-optimized cross bike on the market. We have embraced our lightweight obsession to create a state of the art Cyclo-Cross bike that features excellent stiffness values combined with race-driven geometry for immediate power transfer, direct handling, A-level integration and a handful of unexpected extras while maintaining an incredibly low weight.

CONSTRUCTION

LIGHTWEIGHT CARBON CONSTRUCTION

Addict construction

Light weight is the shared bloodline connecting all SCOTT product segments. Early on, SCOTT invested heavily into the development of new carbon manufacturing technologies, the use of exclusive raw materials and the optimization of development processes. The continuous advancement of SCOTT’s carbon expertise enables the release of stunningly lightweight products on a regular basis. The Addict CX is no exception to this rule.

The frame uses an HMX carbon fiber blend that has inherently excellent stiffness-to-weight characteristics. The front triangle of the Addict CX is manufactured using SCOTT’s patented IMP Technology which results in incredibly lightweight construction. Rounded off with full carbon, hollow rear dropouts the frame weighs in at 890g while the disc brake-optimized fork tips the scale at 390g. The race-ready, disc brake-equipped Addict CX, which Marcel Wildhaber rode at the 2015 CX World Championships in Tabor, is scrapping The UCI’s weight limit for complete bikes.

Thanks to SCOTT’s Engineer’s Carbon expertise, the Addict CX is by far the lightest disc brake-optimized Cyclo-Cross bike currently on the market.

RIGID FRONT END

The new Addict CX features 1 1/8” to 1 1/2” integrated bearings and a tapered headtube. Compared to the previous model the headtube diameter has increased and therefore allows for wider connections of the toptube and downtube which results in an increase of torsional stiffness by 32%. The rigid front end enables direct, precise and safe handling of the bike, even in the most technical of turns.

PF86 BOTTOM BRACKET

The PF86 bottom bracket allows for a wide connection of the downtube and the tapered seattube to the BB box. Together with a stiffness-optimized lay-up and SCOTT’s patented carbon manufacturing process, the BB stiffness of the new Addict CX has increased by 14% compared to its predecessor.

CYCLO-CROSS FEATURES

TIRE CLEARANCE

In Cyclo-Cross mud is like sand on a beach. Tire clearance can therefore be a decisive factor in racing. The fork and frame are built so that even in the muddiest of conditions the wheels turn unrestricted. In case a ride on dirt roads is planned, the Addict CX offers enough tire clearance to accommodate gravel tires.
Tire clearance Addict

MUD-SHEDDING CHAINSTAYS

Mud on the bike is unnecessary weight and can impair the performance of the bike. The shape of the chainstays has been specifically designed to make sure mud doesn’t stick in this area impeding wheel rotation and ultimately rider speed.
Chainstays Addict

REMOVABLE DERAILLEUR HANGER AND CHAIN GUARD

The front derailleur hanger is removable, accommodating all drivetrain options. If a single chainring crankset is run, no derailleur hanger is required and precious grams can be saved by removing it. A removable chain guard avoids chain sucks in case the chain falls off when a double crankset is used.

NEW 2016 Scott Foil Has Been Designed To Win Every Ride!

The 2016 Scott Foil has been first across the finish line in 134 races at the highest level of cycling.

Since its introduction back in 2010, heaps of races have been won on the Foil. To date (April 2015), the Foil holds 15 Grand Tour stage wins and three Classics. The Foil has been first across the finish line in 134 races at the highest level of cycling. The new Foil has been designed to win every ride! Regardless of whether you’re competing, chasing a virtual segment or taking on your riding buddies in an imaginary sprint finale, the Foil is the ultimate machine for those striving to win.

The new Foil features the same lightweight frame characteristics as its predecessor. With a frame weight of 945g and a fork weight of 335g (size Medium, including small parts ) the new Foil is one of the lightest Aero Bikes on the market. Our World Tour riders count every gram. 6.8 kilograms is a magic number for them and despite its aerodynamic and stiff nature, it’s actually not a challenge to build the complete bike below this regulatory threshold.

The frame aerodynamics of the bike have been reworked as a whole: all the vertical sections of the frame have been optimized independently and in conjunction with each other, component integration has been lifted to a new level and the bike features a fully integrated cockpit that saves precious watts. Aside from the visible design enhancements with regards to aerodynamics and integration, the riding comfort of the new Foil has been elevated noticeably. The new Foil keeps the much appreciated characteristics of the original model but adds novel and innovative solutions to make it faster as a whole: It’s a Speed Update!

Compared to its predecessor, the new Foil saves an average of 6 Watts over the tested yaw spectrum. This equates to a gain of 27 seconds over 40 kilometers with an average speed of 45kph. Yet speed was not the only consideration. The new Foil increases bottom bracket stiffness by 13% and torsional head tube stiffness by 13.5%. Vertical compliance of the seat tube area was increased 86%. All of this in frame weighing just 945g (size medium). The fork weighs in at an additional 335g.

The new Foil features a Shimano Direct Mount rear brake which is fitted below the bottom bracket. The lowered seatstays and the removal of the caliper brake bridge between the seatstays decreases the gap behind the seat tube and the seatstays avoiding air stagnation and consequently drag. In addition, the seatstay attachment to the downtube has been carefully designed with regard to aerodynamics in order to improve the airflow around this area of the seatstays.

The airflow that meets the fork blades and seatstays has been disturbed by the spinning wheels and in the case of the seatstays as well by the moving rider’s leg. In-depth CFD analysis has shown that at low yaw angles the airflow is pushed away from the fork blades and seatstays if they exhibit a slight outward orientation. The fork blades and seatstays of the new Foil have been optimized in that regard resulting in an advantage at yaw angles between 3 and 5 degrees.

The new Foil’s down tube diameter increases towards the bottom bracket. This positively affects the BB stiffness. And Scott claims that wind tunnel tests have shown that, compared to a straight down tube, these characteristics improve the aerodynamic performance.

The all-new, fully integrated RR1.0 cockpit from Syncros was developed in conjunction with the new Foil and adds to the aerodynamic excellence of this bike. Its superior aerodynamic properties stem from its aero-optimized shape which includes an F01 profile on the horizontal part of the bar along with state-of-the-art integration possibilities. Full integration of brake cables, mechanical and electronic shifting cables and Shimano’s Di2 junction box ensure a smooth transition between the cockpit and the frame, a clean look and aerodynamic cable routing. Despite the aerodynamic bar design which even features a recess to ensure a smooth transition between the bar tape and the grippy top area of the bar where no bar tape is needed, the Syncros Aero RR1.0 Cockpit has been designed following ergonomic principles. Another major advantage of this integrated carbon cockpit is the ability to specifically tailor the performance of the carbon structure on one piece. Towards the connection with the bar, the stem flares out into a triangulated section which offers a larger contact point for the bar to maximize rigidity and resist twisting.
